Scandinavian Retreat Built From Afar

Tranquil Holiday Retreat

Built From Afar With Scandinavian Design:

Our overseas-based clients lead busy corporate lives and wanted a peaceful getaway—a place to relax with family during the holidays and double as a short-term rental when they weren’t using it. They chose a secluded location, away from the noise of town, to ensure the tranquility they were after. But with no existing power or water supply, getting the site ready for construction came with a few challenges.

The first priority was water. A water diviner helped locate an underground source, and once confirmed, a bore was drilled. With a reliable water supply secured, a pump system was installed to keep things running smoothly.

Next came power. The nearest mains connection was 200 meters away, meaning extensive trenching was needed before the home could be fully serviced.

While these obstacles added some complexity, they were carefully managed, paving the way for a modern, peaceful retreat—a perfect blend of comfort, nature, and Scandinavian design.

A Home Designed For Relaxation:

Inside, the home continues its Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic with a focus on simplicity, warmth, and functionality. A neutral colour palette, complemented by natural wood finishes, creates a calming atmosphere, while high ceilings and strategically placed windows enhance the sense of space and light.

The open-plan living area is the heart of the home, designed for both relaxation and connection. A sleek yet cozy kitchen with modern appliances and custom cabinetry seamlessly integrates with the dining and lounge areas, making it perfect for family gatherings or quiet mornings with a coffee in hand. A fireplace adds a touch of warmth, ensuring the home remains a welcoming retreat year-round.

Each bedroom has been thoughtfully designed to maximise comfort and views, with large windows framing the surrounding landscape. The master suite offers a private sanctuary, complete with an ensuite that features a walk-in shower and minimalist fixtures, embodying the balance of elegance and practicality.

Outdoors, a spacious deck extends the living space, providing an ideal spot to enjoy the serenity of the natural surroundings. Whether basking in the summer sun or stargazing on a crisp evening, this space is designed for effortless enjoyment.

The final result is a retreat that feels both timeless and contemporary—a place where the demands of everyday life fade away, replaced by the simple pleasures of nature, comfort, and thoughtfully curated design.

The Final Result: A bespoke Scandinavian-inspired Investment.

This project was more than just a build—it was about creating a sanctuary, a place where the owners and guests could escape, unwind, and reconnect with nature. Designed as both a family retreat and a premium short-term rental, the home strikes the perfect balance between style, comfort, and practicality.

Despite the challenges of distance and the complexities of a remote site, a strong partnership, clear communication, and meticulous planning ensured a seamless process from start to finish. The result is a thoughtfully designed, expertly crafted home that not only meets but exceeds the clients’ vision.

Now complete, this Scandinavian-inspired retreat stands as a testament to what’s possible when great design, skilled craftsmanship, and a shared vision come together. A peaceful escape, a smart investment, and a space designed to be enjoyed for years to come.
